We Opened Our First Retail Store This Week in Vermont
This week, we’re excited to announce our first retail store opening. Located right on Main Street in Manchester, it’s at the heart of the community.
After years of selling online, through department stores, like Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, and in over 300 boutiques across the United states, we wanted to be able to showcase our products in person and in a setting that was true to our roots. While Mela Artisans’ products come from India, we share a kinship with the community here in Vermont: a similar love for the handmade, a desire to live a life driven by stories and purpose, and an understanding of the importance of community.
Mela Artisans embodies all those values. Plus, Navroze Mehta, the founder of the company, has been a part-time Vermont resident for the past 6 years. That’s why this a perfect spot for us to share our journey and creations with Vermont residents — and the weekenders from the city.
Our new retail outlet will be open Tuesday thru Saturday 10–7 and Sunday and Monday, 10–5. Located at 4566 Main Street, Manchester VT 05255.
In the last five years, Mela Artisans has worked with over 7,000 artisans. The artisan and handicraft sector is the second largest sector, after agriculture, in India. It’s a primary source of income for thousands of people. Yet, it’s disorganized, antiquated, and sadly, a dying art from. Nearly one-third of the sector has abandoned the profession for new pursuits in the last 30 years. Every year, another 1 percent of the artisan base is disappearing.
That’s why, Mehta felt compelled to bring this story to the American consumer — and now it’s at the customer’s fingertips to see, feel, and appreciate in person.
We welcome you to our new home and see the beautiful craftsmanship of our artisans in person.
